Obituary - Emma Martin Hubbard
Emma Martin Hubbard, age 98, wife of deceased Dr. E. O. Hubbard, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday, August 23, 2026 while her nurse was appropriately singing “The Lord’s Prayer” and “I will sing of the Mercies of the Lord Forever” to her. She is survived by her baby sister and best friend, Elsie Martin Andersen. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Coleman Hubbard.
Emma will be deeply missed by her adoring children: Edgar Overton Hubbard III (Camille), Sally Hubbard Jesensky (Mike). She enjoyed doting on her eight grandchildren: Scott Carter Woodard, Mark Coleman Woodard (Meredith), Sara Hubbard Tinnerino (Brian), Meredith Hubbard, Joshua Martin Jesensky (Sarah), Holly Jesensky Rooker (Ronnie), John Hubbard Jesensky (Courtney) and Hannah Overton Jesensky and 11 great-grandchildren: Kinley Elizabeth Woodard, Coleman Russell Woodard, Bridget Randolph Tinnerino, Josie Webb, Henry Michael Jesensky, Dorothy Elizabeth Rooker, Emma Jaqueline Jesensky, Emmitt Oliver Rooker, William Edward Jesensky, Jane Hannah Rooker and Thomas Bennett Jesensky. She is also survived by her loving nephew and nieces.
Emma was born on June 12, 1928 in Raleigh, North Carolina and graduated in 1950 from Mary Baldwin College. She enjoyed teaching at Lakeside Elementary and Maybeury Elementary. Likewise, she delighted in serving Ginter Park Baptist Church where she was president of the WMU, taught Sunday School and played in the bell choir. Emma was also an active member of the Ginter Park Women’s Club. She thoroughly enjoyed travelling and especially spending time with her family and friends at the Rivah in Edwardsville, VA.
Westminster Canterbury was Emma’s home for her last 19 years where she established a large friendship community and was an active volunteer and recipient of the Laurel Award. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Westminster Fellowship Fund, 1600 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, VA 23227, or a charity of your choice. Friends and family are warmly invited to Emma’s celebration of life service in the Westminster Canterbury sanctuary on Thursday, September 3 at 1:00. A reception will follow. A livestream option will be available for those unable to join in person.
