Donald Preston Shumpert, 64, of Henrico, Virginia passed away on April 27.

Born in Lexington, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Noah Franklin Shumpert and Hilma Sallie Lucas Shumpert.

Don attended the University of South Carolina and went on to enjoy a distinguished career with Wells Fargo, where he worked for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2025. In retirement, he found joy in planning cruises with his wife, Claire, and cherished time spent with his grandchildren.

Don was an avid reader and could be found each year celebrating Oktoberfest in his lederhosen. At Christmas he was known for literally lighting up the neighborhood and spreading cheer with his infectious holiday spirit. A true people person, Don never met a stranger and had a gift for making everyone feel like an old friend.

Don leaves behind wife, Claire; daughters Amanda (Joel) Boyce and Allison (Mark) Smiley and former wife, Dawn; and children Valerie (David) Hume, Kevin (Jessica) Harris, and Stephanie (Casey) Harris; and 11 loving grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed by family, friends, colleagues, and all who were enriched by his generosity, kindness, and boundless sense of humor.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
