Obituary - Cordia Moore Garrett
Cordia Moore Garrett, 90, of Henrico, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. Born in Tennessee to the late James Moore and Margaret Roberts Moore, she was the oldest girl of 14 siblings.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lennie Garrett; and son, Marty Wayne Graybeal.
She is survived by her daughter, Hilda Lee Machado; son, Robert Jeffery Graybeal; grandchildren, Angie, Little Jeff, and Sheena; and numerous great-grandchildren and extended family.
Cordia ran her own child care business where she helped raise generations of local children. She devoted her life to caring for children, nurturing others and lifting her community. As a beloved nanny to so many, she was known for her gentle patience, her steady kindness, and the way she made every child feel safe and seen. She created a sense of home wherever she was.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Interment will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, September 14, 2026 at Westhampton Memorial Park.
