Obituary - Barbara Anne Dougherty
Barbara Anne Dougherty, 93, of Henrico, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026. She was the daughter of the late James Dougherty, Sr. and Catherine Hefferman Dougherty. She was also preceded in death by brothers, James, Thomas, and Terrence; and nephew, Dennis W. Dougherty.
She is survived by her nephew and godson, Thomas P. Dougherty, Jr. (Robin); along with nephews and nieces, Theresa Dougherty Gee, Peter J. Dougherty (Maria), James E. Dougherty, Nancy E. Dougherty, J. Michael Dougherty (Jean), Kim D. Bursler (Tom), and Lisa D. Upham; step-nephews and step-nieces, Ruth R. Palczynski (Michael), Michael P. O’Reilly (Denise), and Carey R. Leone (John); 25 great-nieces and great-nephews; 15 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and dear friend, Angela Wood.
Barbara was a graduate of St. Lucy’s Academy, Syracuse, NY. She worked as an underwriting assistant with Firemans Fund Insurance Company, retiring after 40 years. She then went on to move from New York to Virginia in 1997. She was an avid reader, a seasoned traveler, resourceful and frugal. Some have known Barbara to be an expressive and enthusiastic dining analyst. She is loved and will be dearly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Rd, Henrico, VA 23229. An inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, stjude.org.
