Obituary - Avron L. Steele
Dr. Avron L. “Bob” Steele, 89, of Sandston, VA passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026.
Dr. Steele served in the Air Force and Army for twenty years, including two tours in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He received numerous decorations, including the Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Award and was recognized as an expert rifleman. He was a master diver and a life-long student, achieving a master’s degree, advanced certificate, and PhD after returning from Vietnam.
Bob Steele was a gifted athlete, decorated veteran, dedicated family man and beloved husband, father and "Papa." He was active in his church, serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for decades. He loved fishing and boating and fixing everything and anything. He also loved animals and was known for nursing injured birds, turtles, cats, dogs and any animal in need back to health. Among his many great qualities, he will be remembered for his quick intelligence, twinkling blue eyes, fierce love of God, country and family, and for his unswerving loyalty. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by all who called him friend.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John Milburn Steele, mother, Janie Beatty, father, Flobert Ray Steele, and grandson, Duke Steiner.
He is survived by Evelyn Louise Steele, his wife of 65 years; daughter, Rachel Steiner and her children Michael Steele, Jacklyn Montgomery and Ace Steiner, son, Dennis (Pamela) Steele, and their children Phillip Steele, Joshua (Stephanie) Steele, and Katie (Christian) Martos, daughter, Ashley Steele (Bob) Nutley, and their children, Alex, Katie and Jack (Jules) Nutley, and daughter, Ashlyn Jinnette, and her children, Tabitha (Fred) Godsey and Amber Jinnette (Adam); great grandchildren, Steele Martin, Amelia, Suzanna and Anthony Steele, Thomas Steele, Jackson, Ethan and Christopher Martos, and Tatum Steele.
Dr. Steele requested no services.
