Elizabeth Vantre of Glen Allen and Laney Gilman of Henrico were named to the spring 2026 president’s list at the University of Alabama. To be eligible for this honor, students must earn a 4.0 grade point average for the semester.
The following local students were named to the spring 2026 dean’s list at the University of Alabama: Sophie Sands and Drew Vantre, of Glen Allen; Dylan Connell, Virginia Garner, Alexander Hudak, Grant Miller, Ava Benson, Garnett Edmunds, Paige Lowrey, Mary Martin, Robertson Ruth and Lucy Whitaker, of Henrico; and Audrey Munro, of Sandston. To qualify for this honor, students must earn a minimum 3.5 grade point average for the semester.
Kevin Connelly of Henrico was named to the spring 2026 dean’s list at McDaniel College in Maryland. Connelly earned High Honors, which recognizes students who achieve a semester grade point average of 3.70-3.89.
The following local students were named to the spring 2026 president’s list at the College of Charleston in South Carolina: Charlotte Stout, Madalyn Rutherford and Samantha Horn, of Glen Allen; and Celia Turner, Madison Loving, Emma Fredenburg and Elizabeth Krey, of Henrico. To qualify for this honor, students taking at least 12 credit hours must earn a semester grade point average of 3.800 or higher.
The following students from Henrico County were named to the spring 2026 dean’s list at the College of Charleston in South Carolina: Sophia Smith, Sarah Turnbull, Alexandre Bourner, Emma Moeslein and Edward Aboud. To be eligible for this honor, students taking at least 12 credit hours must earn a semester grade point average of 3.500 or higher.

The Varina Lions Club recently awarded Nazifa Promee the 2026 Toson Summers Scholarship. Promee is president of the Varina High School Leo Club. She will attend Johns Hopkins University majoring in Molecular Biology and has plans to attend Medical School.

The Henrico County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution June 23 expressing deep appreciation to K Alferio for her 18 years of service as president and CEO of The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. The recognition celebrates Alferio’s community impact spanning almost two decades, during which she successfully expanded the Center's outreach, educational, arts and theatre programming, as well as its community partnerships. Alferio announced her retirement earlier this year.
Two students from Henrico County recently were initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, a collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines: Devoyae Fields, a student at Old Dominion University, and Virginia Deasy, a student at Longwood University. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.
James Boyd II of Henrico graduated May 24 from Hamilton College in New York. Boyd earned a bachelor's degree and majored in Economics and Environmental Studies.
