Cheryl Woodley says traditional bridal salons are wonderful. But she created CYW Mobile Bridal for fiancées craving something different.

Woodley, a 56-year-old Henrico County local, launched her business in March 2026. But the idea for CYW Mobile Bridal first started forming before her own wedding nearly 27 years ago.

One of the things Woodley was most excited to do before saying “I do” was pick out her wedding dress. But despite providing her size before making an appointment, Woodley’s time at the bridal shop was disappointing and embarrassing.

“The experience was one of the worst experiences in my life,” Woodley said. “When we got there, they did not have dresses to actually fit me. . . either the back was open or they would try and clip it.

“There were even two dresses that the stylist suggested that I couldn't even get over my head.”

Unfortunately, Woodley discovered she was not the only plus-size bride to face these kinds of problems. While working as a wedding planner after her own nuptials, she saw that other plus-size brides were facing a similarly limited selection when dress shopping. Then, a shopping trip with a friend just a couple years ago revealed that plus-sized dress options were still looking the same as they did for Woodley in the ‘90s.

All of these instances, coupled with considerations for anxious brides who might not want to shop in a large setting, led to CYW.

“We created CYW Bridal because we just wanted every bride to have the experience of dress shopping in a private, comfortable environment, surrounded by the people that they love the most,” Woodley said.

CYW Mobile Bridal has two offerings for clients: The CYW Ever After Experience ($795) and The CYW Mrs. Collection ($1,195). Both packages start with a conversation.

“When we're sitting down with them, we are getting a really clear understanding of what they want to look like on their particular day,” Woodley said. “This is one of the most important days, and most likely you won't have a do over.

“So whatever dress you feel as though you're going to feel the most special in, then that's the dress that we're going to find for you.”

Then, Woodley brings gowns (which start at $1,200), veils, accessories, a rounder, a carpet, a full-length mirror, champagne and treats to you – whether that be in your home or elsewhere. If your home doesn’t have the space for a full boutique set up, for example, Woodley will work her magic at a separate private space.

“Let's say your apartment is small and you know that you can't accommodate your guests as well as the dresses as well as everything else, then we have an alternative there,” Woodley said. “That is not an extra cost. I don't want to charge the customer just because they're uncomfortable with having me come to their home.”

Handwritten notes offer support

Once a bride-to-be finds her dress, Woodley will then write her a handwritten note she can open on her wedding day to help with any feelings of stress.

“What the note is actually doing is just reconfirming what they felt like on the day in which they found that perfect dress,” Woodley said.

Both packages bring the boutique experience to you so you can try out gowns surrounded by a small group of loved ones, but the Mrs. Collection has a few extra perks including a longer appointment time, fancier treats that come with a server for you and your guests and the opportunity for a complimentary retry appointment with new dresses if you can’t find the right gown the first time – something that’s rarely necessary, according to Woodley, but a recommended perk for brides who have no idea what kind of dress they want.

But how does Woodley curate the perfect selection of gowns for every bride? She says it helps to give the bride a chance to browse CYW’s online inventory alone.

“When we're speaking to the bride, keep in mind we don't want to initially influence that decision,” Woodley said. “We even recommend to them to look at the dresses by themselves, without anyone else, so that they can develop their own opinion before someone else says, ‘well, I don't like this particular one.’”

And Woodley is not there to make recommendations based on what a person looks like. With inclusivity at the forefront of her business model, she makes sure dress shopping is fun for every client – despite their size or background.

“We want to make sure that our plus-size community, from the very beginning, has the same experience as any other bride,” Woodley said.

No matter the dress you choose, Woodley hopes the shopping process can be joyful and stress-free.

“We created this business so that brides can focus on the moment, the moment that they're in, instead of the pressure of not having a dress that fits, or having so many people staring at you as you're trying your dress on,” Woodley said. “What we want to offer to our customers is just a more personalized experience.”

Woodley is dedicated to serving the greater Henrico community, but her dreams don’t stop there.

“I think that this is a service that everybody could actually benefit from,” Woodley said. “Within the next five years, I would like to franchise where we can offer this service to other people in other states.”

By the end of 2026, she’s also hoping to expand her clientele beyond Henrico, Richmond and Chesterfield to include the Tidewater area. And before her business reaches its two year anniversary, Woodley wants to invest in a trailer.

“Everything would be there as if it was inside of a boutique,” Woodley said of adding a trailer option to her business model. “But it's still just that one-on-one, personalized experience.”
