Henrico Schools to host annual 'Back-to-School Kickoff' event Aug. 15

Free backpacks, family resources, parent workshops and carnival fun the whole family will love!

Henrico County Public Schools’ annual Back-to-School Kickoff will return Saturday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Henrico Sports & Events Center (1 All Star Boulevard in Glen Allen), designed as a way to get students, families and staff ready for the 2026-27 school year.

All students and families in the county are invited to the free day of festivities, which will include:

• carnival-style games and activities for all ages;
• live entertainment;
• free backpacks and school supplies (while supplies last);
• opportunities to meet and talk with school leaders, teachers and community organizations;
• resources to prepare students and families for the first day of school;
• vaccinations for rising seventh and 12th graders.

The Back-to-School Kickoff is hosted by the HCPS Division of Family and Community Engagement.

Henrico Schools will have a staggered start based on grade level and school for the first day of the 2026-27 school year, split between Monday, Aug. 24, and Tuesday, Aug. 25.
