Henrico School Board to review proposed school calendar for 2027-2028
Henrico School Board members March 26 will review the proposed Henrico Schools calendar for 2027-2028 during a 4 p.m. meeting. The board is scheduled to vote on the calendar April 30.
In a community survey conducted by HCPS during the winter, which attracted almost 4,000 respondents, the majority of community members indicated that they wanted HCPS to continue to implement three half days; observe religious holidays such as Yom Kippur, Diwali, Christmas, and Eid al-Fitr; place wellness days adjacent to professional learning days to give students a four-day weekend; and place wellness days in November and February.
Last year, for the first time in HCPS history, the school board approved a staggered start for the first day of school for 2026-2027. The staggered start allows pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, sixth- and ninth-graders to begin at their new school buildings one day before the rest of the building’s student population.
The school board also will hear updates on the Parentsquare communication app at its 4 p.m. work session.
At a 6:30 p.m. monthly meeting, the board will vote on about $44,000 in grants from the Henrico Education Foundation to fund STEM, literacy, and career skill-building initiatives at nine different schools. The board also will vote on almost $2 million in school improvement grants from the Virginia Department of Education to fund additional math and reading tutoring and staff professional development at 26 different schools.
