A roundup of recent results, achievements and other news and notes from Henrico County public- and private-school teams.
Collegiate School
Collegiate's football team defeated St. Anne's-Belfield 41-21 Thursday. The Cougars also earned a 6-0 field hockey victory at St. Stephen's and St. Agnes and a 4-0 junior-varsity field hockey win over Prince George that day. Collegiate's junior-varsity volleyball team swept Freeman 2-0.
Deep Run High School
Deep Run's football team fell to Lake Taylor 20-6 Friday.
The Wildcats' girls volleyball team also competed in the Tournament of Champions at the Henrico Sports & Events Center during the weekend, falling to Midlothian 3-0 Saturday.
Douglas S. Freeman High School
Freeman improved to 2-1 in football with a 36-27 victory at Hanover Friday.
The Mavericks scored 36 points after having totaled 35 in their first two games combined.
Glen Allen High School
Glen Allen improved to 2-1 in football with a 33-7 victory over Patrick Henry Friday.
Quarterback Luke Perini has thrown seven touchdown passes through the Jaguars' first three games, while senior Jakeem Dandridge is averaging 129.3 rushing yards per game. Glen Allen will host Thomas Dale Friday.
Godwin High School
Godwin edged Atlee 23-21 Friday. The victory was one of three Henrico public-school football wins over Hanover County opponents during the weekend, joining Glen Allen's victory over Patrick Henry and Freeman's win over Hanover.
Hermitage High School
Hermitage fell to Trinity Episcopal 20-12 Friday, dropping the Panthers to 2-1.
Hermitage will face Varina Friday in an all-Henrico matchup.
Highland Springs High School
Highland Springs earned one of the area's most significant football victories of the weekend, defeating Dinwiddie 49-28 Friday. The Springers improved to 2-1 and were ranked No. 2 among Virginia Class 5 teams and No. 4 in the Richmond area in MaxPreps' latest rankings.
Highland Springs will host South County Thursday.
J.R. Tucker High School
J.R. Tucker fell to Mechanicsville 23-7 Friday in football and dropped to 0-3. The Tigers will travel to Atlee Friday.
Steward School
Steward's varsity volleyball team defeated Virginia Episcopal School 2-0 Friday.
The Spartans' field hockey team fell 5-0 to North Cross Saturday. Steward had defeated Hampton Roads Academy 3-0 earlier in the week.
Varina High School
Varina and Oscar Smith finished in a 7-7 tie Friday in one of Virginia's highest-profile football matchups. The game was halted by weather with 6:10 remaining in the third quarter and was not resumed. Varina is 2-0-1.
The Blue Devils will host Hermitage Friday in an all-Henrico matchup.
