Henrico Police warn about scammers impersonating officers

Table of Contents

Henrico County Police officials are warning the public about scammers who they say have been attempting to impersonate Henrico Police officers in an attempt to solicit payments from citizens.

Victims are being falsely told that they have outstanding federal warrants and must make a payment in order for the warrant to be cleared, according to police.

The scammers may request payment over the phone using prepaid cards, gift cards, money-transfer apps, or other unconventional methods. The calls are fraudulent, though.

Henrico Police officials never will call and request payment of any kind for a warrant, nor will they ask for personal or financial information over the phone or demand or request payment via gift cards, prepaid debit cards, money apps, or any similar method, officials said.

Anyone who receives this type of call or who believes they may have been targeted should contact the Henrico Police non-emergency number – (804) 501-5000.
