Henrico Police receive $81,500 federal grant for specialized team equipment

The Henrico County Police Division will receive $81,531 in federal funding to upgrade technology and equipment used by its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, Crisis Negotiations Team and Technical Support Team.

The grant is part of $1.72 million in funding announced by U.S. Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine of Virginia for 30 law enforcement agencies and localities throughout the state through the U.S. Department of Justice's Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program.

According to the senators, the funding will help agencies strengthen public safety through upgraded equipment, specialized training and enhanced emergency response capabilities. The JAG program supports a range of public safety needs, including personnel, equipment, training, forensic tools and information systems.

"Keeping Virginians safe means ensuring the officers, investigators, first responders, and court personnel who serve our communities day in and day out have the training, technology, and equipment they need to do their jobs safely and effectively," Warner and Kaine said in a joint statement. "We're proud to announce this funding that will help law enforcement agencies across the Commonwealth strengthen emergency response capabilities, modernize critical equipment, and better protect Virginians."
