The Henrico County Police Division is now accepting applications for its Fall 2025 Citizens Police Academy and Senior Citizens Police Academy — free, hands-on programs designed to build stronger connections between law enforcement and the community.
Both academies will run weekly from Sept. 3 through Nov. 12. The Citizens Police Academy will take place Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., while the Senior Citizens Police Academy is scheduled for Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. Applications for both programs are due by Aug. 15.
These academies are open to:
- Henrico County citizens (those 18 and older for the Citizens Academy and 55 and older for the Senior Academy);
- county employees;
- volunteers for, or family members affiliated with, the Henrico County Police Division.
Applicants must be able to pass a criminal history and DMV check as part of the application process.
Participants will get a unique, behind-the-scenes look at how the police division operates. Through interactive learning sessions, they’ll discover how crime scenes are processed by the Forensics Unit and will have the opportunity to engage with a use-of-force simulator to understand the split-second decisions officers face in the field.
Attendees also will meet members of Henrico’s specialized tactical units, including Aviation, Marine, K9, and SWAT. The programs are designed not only to educate residents about the realities of policing but also to foster community trust and encourage civic engagement.
