The ongoing expansion of St. Mary’s Hospital in Henrico's Near West End has brought a new proposal – for a 362-space parking lot along the south side of the complex, next to Paxton/Pratt Street and Maple Avenue. The site used to contain residences, and St. Mary’s acquired the land during a period of 27 years, starting in 1995.

At its May 14 meeting, the Henrico Planning Commission recommended approval of the parking lot.

Parking already was an issue for the hospital, and the addition of a third tower will further increase the need. The third tower is planned for completion by the end of 2028, but the parking lot should be completed before then.

The commission also recommended approval for a proposal to add four single-family homes to 2.5 acres in Varina at Willson and Messer roads. Access to three of the homes would come from Messer Road, while the other would access Willson Road.

These cases both are scheduled to be considered by the Henrico Board of Supervisors at its June 9 meeting.
