Henrico man sentenced to 6 years in prison for receipt of child sexual abuse material

A Henrico man was sentenced Aug. 26 to six years in prison for receipt of child sexual abuse material.

According to court documents, during a period of at least 16 months, 65-year-old David Brent Timberlake requested and received CSAM through a peer-to-peer file-sharing network designed to anonymize users who share files. 

On Jan. 25, 2023, the FBI searched Timberlake’s residence and seized more than 100 digital devices and pieces of digital media. A forensic review of a portion of the seized devices revealed 52,343 digital files depicting CSAM, including 48,312 still image files and 4,031 video files, of which 634 involved toddlers or infants and 306 involved sadistic or masochistic conduct.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Theophani K. Stamos and Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Richmond Field Office Ian Kaufmann made the announcement after sentencing by U.S. District Judge David J. Novak.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian R. Hood prosecuted the case.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children through the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
