Henrico County Public Schools seeks 'HEROES' to volunteer
Henrico County Public Schools is seeking volunteers to serve as Henrico HEROES mentors during the 2026-27 school year.
Henrico HEROES — Helpers Engaged in Reaching Our Evolving Students — pairs mentors with students at more than 40 elementary, middle and high schools. Mentors meet one-on-one with their assigned students for 30 to 45 minutes once a week through April and also participate in a program-wide kickoff and end-of-year celebration.
The program has connected HCPS students with mentors and community support since 2009.
Prospective mentors must submit an application by Sept. 11, undergo a background check and complete a two-hour training session. In-person training will be offered Sept. 1 and Sept. 15 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Oak Avenue Complex, 15 S. Oak Avenue. Virtual sessions also will be available Sept. 17, 19, 22, 24 and 26.
