HCPS hosting ‘Drive the Bus’ event May 16, job fair May 13

Henrico County Public Schools officials will host their annual “Drive the Bus” job Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well as a monthly job fair Wednesday, May 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Both events will take place at the HCPS Parham Road offices at 1910 East Parham Road. 

The “Drive the Bus” event will give prospective drivers the opportunity to get in the driver’s seat and test one of HCPS’ newest vehicles. The hiring event allows interested applicants to steer a school bus through a course and learn the ins and outs of how the system's 400-plus drivers transport more than 28,000 students to and from schools every day.

Along with the test drive, attendees will learn about pay, job duties, work schedule and benefits. The starting salary for new bus drivers is more than $25 per hour. hour. Interested participants (with valid Virginia driver’s licenses) should sign up for the “Drive the Bus” event at hcps.info/DriveTheBus2026. Qualified bus driver candidates will be paid during training. 

At the monthly job fair, representatives from various Henrico Schools departments will be available to speak about opportunities in facilities and maintenance, school nutrition, instruction and more.
