Glen Allen American Legion Post member completes year as Department Commander

American Legion Post 244 member Scott Maddrea recently completed his year as Department Commander, becoming the first-ever member from the post to serve in the statewide role and also the first Hanover resident to do so.

During his term in the role, Maddrea traveled more than 25,000 miles, attended more than 300 events, and provided more than 1,000 hours of community service. His extensive travel and engagement included significant ceremonial and community activities, such as laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on our nation’s 250th birthday, attending in the Army-Navy game, the 2025 American Legion World Series and joining celebrations marking the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps’ 250th birthdays.
 
The year culminated with his farewell speech at the 108th convention in Richmond July 11, during which he recognized the thousands of Legion family members, veterans, service members and their families.
