Glen Allen 12U all-stars finish as Southeast Regional semifinalists

The 12U Glen Allen Youth Athletic Association Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth League all-star baseball team won the District 3 tournament in Lakeside in June, finished third in the state tournament in Crozet later that month and finished fourth at the Southeast Regional tournament in Jacksonville, Florida earlier this month.

Overall, the team compiled a 10-3 record through the three tournaments, outscoring its opponents 130-54.

Glen Allen was the only non-Florida team to make the regional semifinals, winning three of its four pool play games, including wins against Tennessee state champion Tullahoma (5-1), North Florida state runner-up Julington Creek (10-0) and Eastern North Carolina state runner-up West Carteret (12-4). It fell in the semifinal round to host Fort Caroline, 10-8, and concluded its season just two wins shy of an automatic bid to the 12U World Series in Missouri.

In the district tournament, the team defeated Varina 7-1, Lakeside 9-0 and Varina 15-5 to win the title. Then in the state tournament, Glen Allen completed pool play with a 4-0 record (defeating Peachtree 20-3, Brentsville 12-0, New Kent 12-1 and Arlington 8-6) before losing to Arlington 10-8 in the semifinal round.

Offensively, the team was led by a balanced attack featuring contributions from Liam Y. (.500 batting average, four home runs and 20 runs scored), Cameron L. (.500 average, three home runs, 17 runs batted in), Brayden S. (.455 average, seven home runs, 16 RBI), Quinn L. (.465 average, 5 home runs, 20 runs scored), Stone F. (.412 average, four home runs, 11 RBI) and Jaylen T. (.400 average, 2 home runs, 15 RBI).

On the mound, Jordan L. pitched 12.1 innings across five games without allowing a run, striking out 10 batters while walking none. Quinn L. (2.00 earned run average, 13 strikeouts across 15 innings in seven games), Jaylen T. (2.72 ERA, 10 strikeouts and no walks across 11 innings in six games), Cameron L. (3.10 ERA, 14 strikeouts across 9.2 innings in five games) and Stone F. (12 strikeouts across 14 innings in five games) also excelled through the three tournaments.

The team was managed by Tom Lappas, who was assisted by Trapper Fowler and Chris Fleenor.
