Glen Allen robotics team earns award at world championship event
A Glen Allen robotics team recently earned an award during an international competition in St. Louis.
Team 50878X (the "Geometric Mangos") earned the Inspire Award in Math at the 2026 VEX Robotics World Championship, distinguishing itself among top teams from around the globe.
The Inspire Award is presented in several categories to teams that best represent the overall spirit of the competition, based on both performance and character. Winners are selected through a rigorous evaluation process conducted by a panel of judges.
Teams participate in multiple rounds of interviews, including a remote video interview prior to the event and a final in-person interview at the championship. Judges assess not only technical ability, but also teamwork, communication, and the team’s culture.
According to competition criteria, the Inspire Award recognizes teams that demonstrate a passion for competition, a consistently positive attitude, and perseverance in overcoming challenges. It also highlights exceptional collaboration and a strong student-led environment.
Team 50878X’s latest honor adds to its collection of honors; since 2023, the team has earned 17 awards, including 14 at regional and state competitions. On the world stage, the team previously received the Judges Award in both 2023 and 2024 before earning this year’s Inspire Award.
