Henrico Police officials have identified the victim of a fatal Aug. 10 motorcycle crash in the West End as 57-year-old county resident Arnold Lee Powell, Jr.
Just before 8 p.m., police responded to the intersection of River Road and Panorama Drive after reports that the motorcycle Powell was driving had crashed along the right shoulder of River Road. They located Powell suffering from life-threatening injuries, and emergency responders took him to a local hospital, where he later died. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Powell was riding his motorcycle Westbound on River Road towards Panorama Drive when his motorcycle veered off the road and struck a utility pole, police said.
The impact threw him from the motorcycle, which came to rest in the middle of River Road. Henrico Police officials are working with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine a cause and manner of death. It is currently unknown whether speed or alcohol are factors in this crash.
