The Henrico Humane Society will host its 25th Annual Pet Expo on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Richmond Raceway Complex. Over 60 vendors and exhibitors will be offering a variety of goods and services. Demos and activities are scheduled throughout the day, many of which involve pet participation, including dog contests, a lure course and puppy races. There also will be a kids' area, demonstrations and dog adoptions. Admission is $8 online or $10 at the door for adults and $5 for kids ages 6-12. All proceeds benefit the Henrico Humane Society. Henrico Recreation and Parks will present "The Wildcat: Sparring in the Jim Crow South" at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center (Randolph Community Room) on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Learn the ropes of boxing in the Jim Crow South. The program will follow the story of a Jackson Ward native who became known as "the Pride of 2nd Street" in the early 20th century, as well as the colonial roots of the sport. The University of Richmond's Modlin Center for the Arts will present Choeur du Roi A Cappella at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 in Camp Concert Hall, 455 Westhampton Way. Choeur du Roi A Cappella, also known as Chords, is UR's oldest all-gender a cappella group. They will be showcasing new and classic pop pieces from artists like Olivia Dean, Justin Timberlake and Fleetwood Mac. Ngoma African Dance Company, a university dance group that performs a variety of dances originating from different areas of West Africa, will be opening for the show. The Henrico Theatre, 305 East Nine Mile Road in Highland Springs, will show two movies this weekend: The Princess and the Frog (2009, G, 98 minutes) at 3 p.m. Feb. 21-22 and The Butler (2013, PG-13, 132 minutes) at 7 p.m. Feb. 21. The Shady Grove Coffeehouse at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church in Glen Allen will present Americana-roots and Appalachian folk duo The Honey Dewdrops on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. Laura Wortman and Kagey Parrish have long felt the push-and-pull between their original roots in the Appalachian Mountains and their long-term home in urban Baltimore before relocating recently to Staunton. No Depression has commented that “The Honey Dewdrops have a way of filling their songs with humanity, using their beautiful playing and harmonies to emphasize what connects us all.” Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door; teens 13-18 are admitted at half price, and children 12 and under are free. Doors open at 7 p.m. Coffee, tea, and baked goods are available for purchase. The Shady Grove Coffeehouse is a folk music concert series now in its 24th season.
