Crossroads Art Center, 2016 Staples Mill Road, will hold an Open House & Artist Reception on Friday, Jan. 16 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. CAC will unveil three exhibits: Gallery Member Exhibition themed "New Beginnings," the popular Juried All-Media Show, and a special exhibition by photographer Scott Church. There also will be a performance by Babs Mohammed, who will be playing the Dejembe drum and telling a story about the dance called Takia or Naabewu. Admission is free. Joe Enroughty and His Royal Virginians will perform at the Henrico Theatre on Friday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. The orchestra performs music made famous by many of the “name bands” of the Big Band Era including: Guy Lombardo, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Harry James, Russ Morgan, Jan Garber and many more. The orchestra also performs songs associated with The Beatles, The Carpenters, Barry Manilow, Jimmy Buffett, The Village People, Patsy Cline and Celine Dion, among others. Tickets are $10. Actor and stand-up comedian Tommy Davidson will perform at the Richmond Funny Bone in Short Pump on Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. and on Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. He is best known as one of the stars of the hit television show In Living Color. Davidson has appeared in many films and TV shows and is currently a voice artist for Disney’s animated series The Proud Family. In 2020, he released a personal memoir titled Living in Color: What’s Funny about Me, which recounts his personal triumphs as having been abandoned as in infant, adopted, and raised by a Caucasian family in Washington, D.C. during the Civil Rights Movement. As part of the 17th Annual Israeli & Jewish Film Festival, the movie Pink Lady will play at the Weinstein JCC, 5403 Monument Avenue in Henrico, on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. The festival presents a diverse and inspiring lineup of award-winning films and engaging, educational programming that connects to both Jewish and Israeli stories. A Zoom talkback with Dr. Jeremy Novich, PsyD will follow the film. Tickets are $15 to $18. Click here for details. The festival continues on select dates through Jan. 25.
Greenberg's Great Train & Toy Show will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 17-18 at the Richmond Raceway Complex. The show features more than 250 tables selling trains from over 50 exhibitors from across the country. There will be model train displays, free workshops and demonstrations, a free test track to run your trains, and more. The largest and longest-running train and toy show in the northeast, Greenberg's has been running train shows since 1976. Admission at the door is $12 on Saturday (ticket good for both days) and $11 on Sunday for adults. Tickets purchased online are $1 cheaper. Children 11 and under are admitted free. Parking is free.
