Two local organizations will present The Nutcracker this weekend in Henrico. The story of Clara and her nutcracker takes place on Christmas Eve and continues through Clara’s magical dream of mice, snowflakes, dancing flowers and sugar plum fairies. The Central Virginia Dance Academy will perform at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen; showtimes are 7 p.m. Dec. 19, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 20, and 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Dec. 21. Tickets are $22 to $28 and can be purchased here. Additionally, the Concert Ballet of Virginia will perform at J.R. Henrico Recreation and Parks will host A Magical Holiday Evening at Dorey Park on Friday, Dec. 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Get into the holiday spirit by enjoying a magical evening riding the RVA Express train through the holiday lights. Jonathan Austin will entertain with magic and juggling tricks. Savor hot cocoa in a winter wonderland scene. Admission is free. Click here for details.
Two comedians will perform at the Richmond Funny Bone in Short Pump this weekend. Dale Jones was trained at Second City in Chicago and has had numerous television appearances. He is a regular on Sirius XM’s “The Jeff and Larry Channel.” His showtimes are 7 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. Dec. 19 and 6:30 and 9:15 p.m. Dec. 20. Tickets are $22. Ben Bankas is the host of “Bankas Podcast,” available on Youtube/Spotify/Apple Podcasts, and has four full-length comedy specials available on Youtube. The CSz Richmond Theater, located at 8906 West Broad Street, will present What the Elf? on Friday, Dec. 19 from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Step inside Santa’s workshop…but not everything is as it seems. The elves are bustling—making toys, wrapping presents, feeding reindeer—but one among them isn’t really an elf. It’s up to the audience to spot the undercover imposter as the cast improvises chaotic, hilarious and heartwarming scenes straight from the North Pole. Tickets are $11 online here. The Barter Players will present I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas at the Henrico Theatre on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. This musical has all of the fun and silliness as the song you know so well. Admission is free. Click here for details.
