Jewish Family Theatre will present the musical comedy Guys and Dolls at the Weinstein JCC, 5403 Monument Avenue, at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 and at 3 p.m. Dec. 7. When it opened on Broadway in 1950, Guys and Dolls ran for 1,200 performances, receiving nearly unanimous positive reviews from critics and winning a bevy of awards. With music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City, Guys and Dolls takes the audience from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City. The show continues on select days through Dec. 14. Tickets are $25 to $40. Click here for details.
The HATTBox Players will present Soda Shop Angel at HATTheatre, 1124 Westbriar Drive, at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5-6 and at 2 p.m. Dec. 7. It's the 1950s, where poodle skirts, hula hoops and soda shops reign. A father is trying to keep the family's soda shop in business as he and his children struggle over the loss of wife and mother, Judy. Add in a bit of teen romance, a TV show offering much needed prize money, and a bumbling angel-in-training sent to help, and you have either a disaster or a miracle in the making. Tickets are $24 for adults and $20 for youth/students/military. To reserve seats, call the box office at (804) 343-6364. For details, visit hattheatre.org.
