The Three Lakes Nature Center reopened this past week after a $4.6 million renovation project that began in January. Henrico officials are celebrating by offering two community events this weekend: an outdoor concert featuring 5 STARR will take place Friday, Sept. 12 and an outdoor showing of the movie "Ice Age" will be held Saturday, Sept. 13. The Henrico Theatre Company will present "Moon Over Buffalo" by Ken Ludwig Sept. 12-13 at 7 p.m. and Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. Set in the summer of 1953, George and Charlotte Hay, failed Broadway stars, attempt to regain their former glory in Buffalo, New York. Join this charming husband-and-wife acting duo as they navigate the challenges of performing both Cyrano de Bergerac and Private Lives in repertory. The stage is set for a hilarious blend of theatrical mishaps, family drama, and the unexpected arrival of a Hollywood director. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and students. Henrico Humane Society will hold its 3rd Annual Bark in the Park Dog Walk on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Crump Park in Glen Allen. The 2K (1 ¼ miles) walk starts at 10 a.m. Registration is $15 in advance or $20 at the event for adults and $5 for kids 6-12. Children under age six and dogs are free. Registration fees benefit HHS, who will use the funds to support the animals in their care. In addition to the walk, activities will include dog contests ($3 per entry), an agility course, live music, local vendors, face painting and inflatables for children, food trucks and more. The Shady Grove Coffeehouse at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church in Glen Allen kicks off its 24th season with Americana band The Anvil Brothers, featuring special guest Andrea Larson, on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. The Anvil Brothers is known for its progressive acoustic music, which spans genres like folk, country, blues, and rock and roll. The performance will include original songs from their album "Little Stories," music from their upcoming release, and covers of popular artists like Bob Dylan, Chris Stapleton and The Beatles. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door; teens 13-18 are admitted at half price, and children 12 and under are free. Doors open at 7 p.m. Coffee, tea, and baked goods are available for purchase. The Shady Grove Coffeehouse is a folk music concert series founded in 2001. Celebrate Indigenous culture, community and connection at the Kenaanee Native Arts Festival at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden on Sunday, Sept. 14 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This collaboration between Lewis Ginter, the Virginia Native Arts Alliance and Indigenous voices from across the East Coast is rooted in the spirit of “Kenaanee”—the Powhatan Algonquin word for friendship—and it is designed to uplift Native traditions through art, storytelling, food and play. Enjoy short films by Indigenous creators, a live Shinny game, music, crafts, storytelling, seed-saving, and an arts market. Native food trucks and community partners will be on-site to share in culture, conversation and celebration. The event is included with Garden admission, which is $10 to $20.
