The CSz Richmond Theater will present two shows on Friday, Aug. 29: Upstaged, an improvised sitcom set in the vibrant 1960s New York theater scene, at 7:30 p.m. and Potluck Improv, a smörgåsbord of improv sets, at 8:45 p.m. In Upstaged, the main characters are Penelope, an off-Broadway actress who's been 29 for the last 17 years, and Cuthbert, her witty butler. The cast will create a sitcom based on audience suggestions. Each show lasts one hour and tickets are $10. A Double Feature ticket, providing admission to both shows, is $15. ImmerseCon 2025, a STEM and video game convention, will be held at the Hilton Hotel & Spa/Short Pump, 12042 West Broad Street, on Aug. 30 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Aug. 31 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Learn about different STEM professions, participate in the Esports Championship, shop a vendor marketplace, and learn how to play Dungeons & Dragons. The convention will also feature an indie developer showcase, a FIRST Robotics section, tabletop gaming, a VR immersion chamber, cosplay, a retro arcade exhibit, and more. West Broad Village will host a series of Movies Under the Stars on select Saturdays this summer. The events will take place on The Lawn from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Movies will begin at dusk, approximately 8:30 p.m. The film on Aug. 30 is A Minecraft Movie. Admission is free and open to the public. A cappella sextet Take 6 will perform at The Tin Pan on Sunday, Aug. 31 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Consisting of Claude McKnight, Mark Kibble, Joel Kibble, Dave Thomas, Alvin Chea and Khristian Dentley, Take 6 has won 10 Grammy Awards, 10 Dove Awards, a Soul Train Award, and is a member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. The six voices are united in harmony against a backdrop of syncopated rhythms, innovative arrangements and funky grooves that bubble into an intoxicating brew of gospel, jazz, R&B and pop. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will offer free admission to all guests during its Genworth Free Community Day on Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 1) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to 50 acres of gardens, flowers and shaded paths, the universally-accessible Klaus Family Tree House will be open for all to enjoy, as will the Waterway splash pad in the Children’s Garden. Visitors can also explore the outdoor art exhibition, Homes & Habitats, with installations located throughout iconic areas of the Garden.
