St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 4611 Sadler Road in Glen Allen, will host its 40th Annual Lebanese Food Festival May 16-18. Savor traditional Lebanese food like kabobs, hummus, falafel, baklawa and more, as well as Lebanese beer and wine. There also will be lively entertainment featuring traditional Lebanese music and cultural dance performances. Admission is free. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 16-17 and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 18. Credit cards are accepted. The festival will be held rain or shine. Free off-site parking and shuttle services are available at the Markel Office building located at 4521 Highwoods Parkway. Enter from Cox Road or Sadler Road by the Post Office. Take the shuttle to the food festival, and you will receive a ticket for a free piece of baklawa located at the sweets booth. The University of Richmond will host its 26th annual Big Yard Sale on Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Robins Stadium East Concourse on campus, 15 Gateway Road. Items for sale include women's and men's clothing, shoes, linens, appliances, kitchen items, sporting goods, books, office supplies, lamps, household electronics, office chairs, mini refrigerators, microwaves, and more. Cash, check, credit and digital payments will be accepted. Proceeds from the event will benefit UR Rethink Waste and the Sierra Club Falls of the James Group.
The Richmond VA Comicon will take place Saturday, May 17 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Richmond Raceway Complex. There will be a costume contest in addition to a variety of exhibitors and artists selling comics and toys. Tickets are $10 to $20 and are available online only; no tickets will be sold at the door. The RVA Taco Festival returns to Hardywood Park Craft Brewery in West Creek, 820 Sanctuary Trail Drive, on Sunday, May 18 from noon to 6 p.m. The festival will feature a dozen of the best taco trucks and restaurants from the Richmond area, as well as four local musicians: George Dennehy, Fallen Roads, The Party Favors and Lucid Evolution. The event is a fundraiser for Henrico-based nonprofit Safe Harbor, which has provided services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence and human trafficking since 2000. Admission is free, but a suggested donation of $10 per adult is requested. Donations can be made in cash or credit card via online payment. The festival is family-friendly and will include vegetarian and vegan food options, as well as non-alcoholic drink options. Antique Melody Show will perform at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen on Sunday, May 18 at 3 p.m. The band plays old-time swing and cabaret music. It consists of vocalist Marilyn Brown accompanied by Art Mayer on guitar, Allen Cole on clarinet, Kassia Arbabi on violin, Andy McCarty on keys, and Carter Blough on the upright bass. The performance will take place on CACGA’s Center Field outdoor stage. Seating is general admission; bring a lawn chair or blanket. Tickets are $20. Snacks, wine, beer and other beverages will be available for purchase. Pets and outside alcohol are prohibited. Children three and under do not need a ticket.
