Vithoulkas to introduce proposed Henrico County budget at March 10 meeting
At a 3:30 p.m. meeting March 10, Henrico County Manager John Vithoulkas will introduce the proposed county budget for 2026-2027 to the Henrico Board of Supervisors.
Vithoulkas and the board will hold public meetings on the proposed budget with each county department, including Henrico Schools, during the week of March 16. The county also will hold a public hearing on the budget at 5 p.m. on March 24 and a public hearing on proposed tax rates at 6 p.m. on April 14.
Last year, the county adopted a $1.9 billion budget, with $1.355 billion going towards the county’s general fund. The budget included the county’s largest comprehensive tax rate reduction in almost 40 years.
At 6 p.m. on Tuesday, the county also will propose a utility rate increase, which would raise bimonthly charges for water and sewer usage for the median residential user by $7.70 every two months, or about $0.13 per day. The board of supervisors will hold a public hearing on the proposal on April 14, which if passed, would take effect on July 1.
The board of supervisors also is scheduled to vote on a rezoning case that would allow Elderhomes Corporation to build 60 new single-family homes on 17.5 acres northwest of the intersection Nine Mile Road and Newbridge Road in Varina. The case, which was recommended for denial by the Henrico Planning Commission, has been deferred three times, by both Elderhomes and the board.
