Virginia Tourism Corporation will again serve as the title sponsor of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race at Richmond Raceway on Thursday, Aug. 14. The official name of the race will remain the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 150.

“We’re proud to continue our partnership with the Virginia Tourism Corporation and highlight Richmond Raceway as a premier sporting venue in the region with the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 150,” said Richmond Raceway President Lori Collier Waran. “Our commonwealth has proven to be an excellent host of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in recent years, and we’re delighted to welcome the series back to start our summer race weekend.”

The race will kick off a three-race weekend at the track in August and will be followed Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m. by the finale to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series regular season and then Aug. 16 by the NASCAR Cup Series Cook Out 400 at 7:30 p.m.

“We are thrilled to continue our support of the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 150 at Richmond Raceway,” said Rita McClenny, President and CEO of Virginia Tourism Corporation. “This iconic track delivers a high-octane race weekend experience with an atmosphere that captures the spirit of Virginia’s deep-rooted racing tradition. We’re ready to wave the green flag and welcome fans from near and far to see firsthand why Virginia is for Racing Lovers.”

With the exception of the COVID-shortened 2020 season, this year will be the first since 1958 that Richmond Raceway has not hosted two Cup Series events. NASCAR took away the track’s spring weekend as part of a reorganization that saw it add a race at a new location – Mexico City’s Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez road course, where the two new June races will be held for the first time.
