Tuckahoe Elementary School has been named a 2025 National Blue Ribbon School by the Virginia Board of Education, distinguishing it as one of the top schools in the state in math and reading achievement.

Tuckahoe Elementary was honored as an Exemplary High Performing School, one of the award’s two categories. Principal Sonia Ford and HCPS Chief of Leadership Ingrid Grant represented the school as it was officially honored at the Jan. 8 Virginia Board of Education meeting in Richmond.

“This recognition reflects the daily dedication of our teachers and support staff, whose commitment to high expectations, collaboration and care for every child makes excellence possible,” Ford said. “It celebrates our students, who rise to challenges with curiosity, perseverance and a love of learning.”

Superintendent Amy Cashwell, Henrico School Board Member Marcie Shea (Tuckahoe District), Jody K. Rogish (Tuckahoe District) of the Henrico Board of Supervisors and Grant visited Tuckahoe Elementary on Friday morning to celebrate teachers, staff and students.

“The School Board and I are incredibly proud of what this designation means for the Tuckahoe community and for Henrico Schools,” Cashwell said. “It is a testament to the true teamwork between Tuckahoe’s leadership team and instructional and support staff, as well as the trust and engagement of our families.”

The program shifted this year from the U.S. Department of Education to individual states. Tuckahoe Elementary was one of seven Virginia schools to receive the 2025 designation.
