Three people were injured in a five-vehicle crash along Interstate 295 in Henrico County Wednesday night, according to the Virginia State Police.

The crash happened near the Interstate 64 eastbound Exit 28A just before 8:30 p.m.

State police said a tractor-trailer struck two truck-mounted attenuator (TMA) vehicles and two pickup trucks that were part of a pothole repair work zone. One of the pickup trucks was being driven by a civilian, the other vehicles involved belonged to the work crew.

"Preliminary investigation indicates the tractor-trailer failed to move into the left lane while approaching the stationary work zone, resulting in the collision with the work vehicles and personnel," state police said.
