Field testing by the City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities, in conjunction with officials from Henrico and Hanover counties, could result in low water pressure for some water customers in Henrico Sept. 30.
The testing will take place on the 36-inch water transmission main along Hermitage Road, which the city is relocating as part of its Diamond District development project on Ashe Boulevard. The effort ties into the water distribution systems for Hanover and Henrico counties, according to city officials.
Public Utilities teams from the three localities have been working together throughout the project, officials said, and each will perform a role in the Sept. 30 field tests, in order to ensure water system stability and resilience when the project contractor ties in the new, relocated water main to the system (currently anticipated by mid to late October).
The field tests will analyze the water distribution systems to determine if operational adjustments are needed to maintain adequate water pressure during peak demand periods for the tie-in process, according to city officials.
The regional team will be monitoring the situation and in constant contact throughout this event, which is expected to be completed by 10 a.m.
Some residents in and near Richmond Raceway, Highland Park, Chamberlayne, Scott's Addition, other areas of Northside, and Mechanicsville could experience lower than normal water pressures during the tests, from approximately 5 a.m. to 10 a.m., while the regional teams monitor the systems and make necessary adjustments, according to officials.
