'Sweet Adeline,' age 49, seeking partner

The Greater Richmond Chorus is in need of new rehearsal space

No, that headline is not an ad for a lonely-hearts club for the middle-aged.

It's an announcement from the Greater Richmond Chorus – a chapter of Sweet Adelines International – of their search for a community partner with rehearsal space.

On July 1, the nonprofit women’s a cappella chorus will lose its lease on the rehearsal space at Forest Hill Presbyterian Church that it has used for the past seven years.

Members of the chorus, which rehearses weekly on Thursday evenings, are seeking a new, centrally-located space, and hope that a church, school, or community organization with available space will see this as an opportunity to gain a reliable, long-term tenant – as well as a chance to support the arts.

Key requirements for the new rehearsal space include an open area at least 50 feet wide with 14-foot ceilings, availability on Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., accessible restrooms, lighted parking, secure storage, and basic climate control. The chorus’s monthly rental budget is up to $675.

Greater Richmond Chorus will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2027 and continues to perform at community events, charitable functions, and public performances throughout the region.

Organizations or property managers with suitable space are asked to contact Chris Schwartz, GRC facilities coordinator, at facilitysearch@grcsings.com to explore the possibility of a partnership.
