Hello Henrico neighbors! Did you know there is a delicious home bakery in your neighborhood? The name is Suzka’s Cakes & Cookies, LLC!

Victoria, also known as Susan, or “Suzka” in Slovakian, is a first generation American and works as a team with her husband of thirty blessed years, Rob Stephenson, to run her business. Her mother, Olga, was from Vinkovci, Croatia and her father was from Bratislava, Slovakia. They came to America in 1964.
Susan developed a strong culinary palette from her mother’s amazing European cooking. Her passion is baking desserts taught to her by her mother and her aunts, Vjera & Ana.

Suzka’s specialties include a European nut roll & poppyseed cakes, as well as her Aunt Ana’s decadent German Linzer Torte, which she learned how to bake this specialty cake in 1992 when she was in Germany meeting her aunt for the first time.

Business beginnings

In May of 2019, Rob and Susan drove their daughter & best friend to a concert in New Jersey. While there, Rob and Susan took their own field trip to Carlo’s Bake Shop in Hoboken, New Jersey to fulfill Susan’s dream to have dessert at the famous bakery.

Susan is a huge fan of the Cake Boss, Buddy Valastro, and a couple months later, in July 2019, is when Susan decided to take a leap of faith and just do it! She left her job of eleven years with the county school system and secured her business license to operate a home bakery business out of their home in Lakeside, Henrico County.

Susan is also self-taught amateur cake decorator and has been obsessed with recipes since the age of 8 years old. She loves to take classic recipes and tweak them to add a different taste profile to leave you wanting more. She and Rob enjoy baking unique cake or cookie flavors not found in grocery stores. Their best-selling cookie flavor, Lavender Lemon, sells out all the time at their pop-up events in the greater RVA. Another popular flavor is the Hurricane cookie which has crushed pretzels, crushed potato chips, mini chocolate chip morsels, butterscotch morsels, and mini m&ms. It is a fun, sweet & salty combination loved by children & adults!

Wide selection of unique cookie flavors

The first time Susan and Rob’s daughters had her famous carrot cake with cream cheese frosting as teenagers, the comment was, “Oh my Gosh, this is Christmas in our mouth!” Afterward, they told her to never stop baking. Another favorite quote came from a customer at a pop-up event who, after she purchased their apple crumb cake, stated to “take that recipe to the grave.” She ended up buying two more cakes for the road!

Susan & Rob adhere to the Virginia Cottage Baking Laws and have a wide selection of unique cookie flavors and comforting desserts that hit home and remind you of how grandma used to bake in the good 'ole days. Suzka’s desserts are available in Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Nut Free and with a sugar substitute for dietary needs, when requested.

They bake cakes, cupcakes, mini cupcakes, blondie bars, and customized iced sugar cookies for special occasions. Susan and Rob also have gourmet flavored popcorn packs for sale at pop-up events and at the Twisted Carrot Farm and Market. Their popular popcorn is Dill Pickle popcorn and close second is Buffalo Ranch flavor.
