On Nov. 14, St. Joseph's Villa celebrated the grand opening of the Flagler Housing Success Center, a 10,000-square-foot facility that will provide a range of services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

The center will combine Flagler's Housing & Homeless services with other Villa programs, allowing clients to access mental health support, job readiness training, and life skills education in addition to housing assistance.

Located in one of the Villa's original orphanage cottages, the center represents the first full renovation of an original cottage. The center also represents the return to campus of services for the homeless community, which moved to a Willow Lawn office several years ago after the Greater Richmond Transit Company eliminated the Brook Road bus line. St. Joseph's worked with GRTC to bring the bus line back, and it resumed service to Brook Road last year.

Among the elected officials on hand for the ribbon-cutting were Sen. Lamont Bagby, Del. Destiny LeVere-Bolling, and Henrico County Supervisor Roscoe D. Cooper III. Liza White Weir, the granddaughter of Flagler Home founders Janet and Lawrence Lewis, also participated in the ceremony.

Founded as an orphanage and school in 1834, St. Joseph's Villa is the longest-serving nonprofit for children in the country.
