Sports Backers officials announced Sept. 2 that the organization has launched a new initiative aimed at strengthening the region’s running and walking community. The Henrico nonprofit's Run Club Grant Program offers local clubs a chance to apply for reimbursable grants of up to $300 to support their growth and engagement efforts.
Applications for the program are open through Sept. 16. Selected clubs will receive approval for purchases that benefit their members, such as equipment or supplies, and then be reimbursed after submitting receipts. Award announcements will be made by the end of September.
“Sports Backers is proud to be a catalyst for the growth of local run and fitness clubs in our community,” said Will Dixon, executive director of Sports Backers. “These groups bring people together, support healthier lives, and create connections that last well beyond a workout. By working alongside them, we’re helping the movement for active living take root and thrive across Richmond.”
In addition to funding, clubs accepted into the program will be invited to Sports Backers’ first Warehouse Day in October. Each club can send one or two representatives to shop for supplies such as hydration products, energy gels, leftover race merchandise, and paper goods.
