The 2026 RVA Environmental Film Festival, which begins Feb. 21 and runs through March 7, will include a showing of Honeyland at Libbie Mill Library and a showing of Cigarette Surfboard at the University of Richmond

The UR film, which portrays a surfer who creates a functional surfboard using 10,000 littered cigarette butts and takes it around the world, will be hosted by the Office for Sustainability Feb. 26 in Jepson Hall. A reception with the filmmaker will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the screening.

Honeyland, which airs Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at Libbie Mill Library, features the last female bee-hunter in Europe, who must save the bees and restore the natural balance after a family of nomadic beekeepers invades her land.

The festival launches at Studio Two Three in Richmond with all-day screenings the weekend of February 21-22.  Among other locations for film screenings are Richmond and Chesterfield libraries, VCUarts Cinema, and Maymont’s Robins Nature Center. The final RVA EFF screening event will take place at the VMFA March 7. Several of the screenings will offer an opportunity to hear from and converse with filmmakers and activists connected to the films.
