Henrico-based Richmond Association of Realtors recently used a $10,500 Placemaking grant from the National Association of Realtors to help transform space along the Capital Trail into public destinations for community use and enjoyment.
RAR used the funds for the installation of two mobile bike workstations in Charles City County, as well as to purchase and install a pavilion at the Breez-In trail crossing. The stations and pavilion officially opened to the public following a ribbon-cutting event Nov. 12.
The grant is part of NAR’s initiative to encourage local Realtors associations to collaborate with neighboring organizations to plan, organize, implement, and maintain placemaking projects that are lighter, quicker, and more cost-effective. RAR partnered with the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation on the project.
“Realtors live, work and volunteer in their communities and take immense pride in our work to make our neighborhoods better places to live, work and raise a family,” said Laura Lafayette, CEO of RAR and the Central Virginia Multiple Listing Service.“This grant provides a tangible, immediate opportunity to enhance and revitalize areas along the trail for the greater good. Placemaking can foster healthier, more social, and economically vibrant communities. It creates places where people feel connected to their neighborhoods and committed to making them better.
“As the Richmond region becomes more attractive and welcoming, nearby properties may also increase in value,” said Lafayette.
