Virginia Commonwealth University and Reynolds Community College will launch a new dual-admission initiative, NEXT Step VCU, at a signing ceremony on Sept. 8, aimed at making the path from community college to a VCU bachelor’s degree more seamless for eligible students.

The program will offer cost savings, guaranteed credit transfer, personalized academic advising and community-building opportunities, along with early access to VCU resources such as library services, campus facilities and cultural events. Organizers say the first cohort will include roughly 50 to 100 students, with plans to grow participation in future years.

By admitting students to both institutions and aligning academic supports from the start, NEXT Step VCU is designed to reduce uncertainty around which courses will transfer and to connect students earlier with four-year advising and campus life. Those features, according to officials, can help students stay on track academically and financially while progressing toward a bachelor’s degree.
