Jannat Indian Cuisine, 7801 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: person in charge failed to correct employees when touching ready-to-eat foods with bare hands, not washing hands when needed, and ensuring employees are trained in food temperatures and how to handle chemicals; facility couldn’t provide employee health policy or written procedures for cleaning up vomit and diarrhea; employee washed hands in prep sink instead of hand sink; employee cut raw meat and changed gloves without washing hands; employees touched naan and garnishes with bare hands; staff bathroom doesn’t have paper towels; raw chicken is stored over cooked chicken in walk-in cooler; microwave is dirty; dried yogurt found in yogurt blender; dish machine has 0 ppm chlorine; temperature of chicken sausage is elevated because of improper cooling methods; temperatures of two large bins of unsalted butter and a container of cream are elevated; small container of eggplant curry in walk-in cooler is past its expiration date; did not observe date marks on several foods cooked yesterday in walk-in cooler; chemicals and medicines are stored over drinks at the bar; cut onions are stored in a bucket previously used for detergent; pomegranate sour contains raw egg white but the drink menu doesn’t contain a consumer advisory; cook is wearing a bracelet; plastic containers are being used as scoops in rice cooker and yogurt container; dumpster lids were left open.

CAVA, 9964 Brook Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: observed improper hot holding temperatures on expo line (lamb, falafel) and on to-go line (braised lamb, meatballs, chicken); container of roasted vegetables in walk-in cooler is past its expiration date; flies found around mop sink; tongs are stored inside the spinach container.

El Caporal, 1417 Eastridge Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: employee drinks throughout kitchen have straws but no lids; employee used hand sink to wet wiping cloth; there is no handwash signage posted in men’s restroom; raw chorizo is stored next to raw peppers in right prep table; there is brown buildup on in-use soda nozzles; chip storage bins are dirty; observed grease buildup on hanging cooking equipment; dried food debris found on can opener blade; grater is stored with cheese debris on it; cooked spinach in left lowboy has an incorrect date mark; cooked chili relleno is stored in left lowboy without a date mark; enchilada sauce in walk-in cooler is past its expiration date; spray bottle full of clear liquid is unlabeled; salt is stored in an old chicken bouillon container without a proper label; employee picked up ready-to-eat fried flauta with a wiping cloth towel; taco shells are stored unprotected from contamination on top shelf; two tubs of raw chicken are stored directly on walk-in cooler floor; bag of onions are stored directly on dry storage room floor; ice scoop handle is touching ice; single-service cups without handles are being used as scoops throughout the restaurant in salsa, salt and spices; knife strip is dirty with grease accumulation; single-service containers are stored uninverted; lemons and limes for drinks are stored in a non-food grade sanitizer bucket; various foods in chest freezer and one-door reach-in freezer are stored in non-food grade grocery/to-go bags; tip of knife stored on knife strip is chipped off; colander is torn; storage racks in walk-in are rusted; floor in walk-in cooler is broken and falling down; gaskets of chest freezer and left lowboy unit are torn; cutting boards at cook line and single-use cutting boards are scratched and stained; observed food debris in top of prep unit behind foods; several items/areas are dirty throughout kitchen (lowboy units, gaskets of lowboy units, storage rack on top of prep unit, storage rack next to grill, catch tray under grill, bottoms of two-door and one-door reach-in freezers, gasket and seal of chest freezer, exterior crevices of dish machine, and can opener base); observed heavy grease buildup on storage rack next to grill and casters of fryer and adjacent table; walk-in cooler fan grates are dusty; hose with spray nozzle attached at mop sink doesn’t have a dual check valve installed; there is a leak at u-bend of hand sink; there is a direct plumbing connection at three-compartment sink and prep sink; dumpster doors were left open and there is trash and debris on the ground surrounding the dumpster; observed heavy grease buildup on outdoor grease receptacle; wet mop isn’t hung or inverted to air dry; wall corners throughout kitchen are in disrepair; baseboards are coming off walls; hand sink is coming off the wall; there are chipped tiles behind and under equipment; observed hole in ceiling above drink machines; two lights are burned out in hood system; observed food splashes on walls; floor behind prep units is dirty; food debris found on floor in dry storage.

The Answer Brewpub Co., 6008 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: raw foods are stored over ready-to-eat foods in three refrigerated units; dried food debris found in microwave; chicken, beef and pork are sitting out at room temperature on kitchen counter without a time control policy in place; vegetable dumpling and a tub of cole slaw in reach-in cooler are past their expiration dates; rice scoops/paddles are stored in room temperature water; deep fryer basket is in disrepair; one light is out in hood ventilation system; facility doesn’t have quat sanitizer test strips; chlorine sanitizer test strips are expired; reach-in cooler door gaskets throughout establishment (front and back bar areas, kitchen) have mold, dust and/or dried food debris on them; reach-in cooler doors and handles have dried food debris on them; walk-in cooler fan guards and floor fan in kitchen are dusty; walk-in cooler beer lines are moldy; there are dried food stains on walk-in cooler ceiling; storage rack shelf liners are dirty; observed grease residue on sides of hot line cooking equipment; there is a direct plumbing connection underneath three-compartment sink.

Bambu Drinks & Desserts, 4040-F Cox Road – No violations reported during a routine inspection.

Charleys Cheesesteak and Wings, 4101 Dominion Boulevard – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: facility couldn’t provide written procedures for cleaning up vomit and diarrhea; hand sink in very back of kitchen doesn’t have paper towels; three hand sinks are missing hand soap; temperatures of chicken wings and shredded lettuce cooling in the walk-in cooler are elevated because of improper cooling methods; spray bottle containing a chemical is unlabeled; boxes of cheesesteak meat are stored directly on walk-in freezer floor; take-out containers are stored uninverted; long cutting boards on both prep units are scored and stained; gasket liner is torn on right-side door of prep unit and on lowboy freezer unit on the cook line; all fryer baskets have broken off metal pieces; observed old food debris on wire racks in walk-in cooler; y-valve connected to mop sink faucet doesn’t have the appropriate backflow prevention device installed; mop isn’t hung or inverted to air dry.

JS Lakeside Tavern, 5406 Lakeside Avenue – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: facility doesn’t have a certified food protection manager on staff; dried food debris found inside microwave; portioned cups of cooked rice are being held longer than 24 hours with no date marking; deep fryer, reach-in freezer and reach-in cooler are in disrepair; facility doesn’t have a sanitizer test kit; reach-in cooler and dry storage shelves are dirty; sides of cooking equipment are greasy; observed food debris on reach-in freezer door gaskets; there are dried food stains/residue on exterior of plastic holding containers; walk-in cooler fan guards are dusty; there is a direct plumbing connection underneath both three-compartment sinks; there is grease residue on wall behind cook line; observed dried food stains on kitchen walls.

Toast New American Gastropub, 7007 Three Chopt Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: observed an open can drink over prep table and an employee drinking from a carafe; employee working with raw meat changed gloves but didn’t wash hands before prepping salads; raw meat is stored above uncovered veggies in prep units; temperatures of pickled onions, carrots, beets, pico, cheese and black bean salsa are elevated; large flies found in kitchen; knives are being stored in sanitizer; gaskets are torn and racks are rusted throughout facility; cutting boards are stained; equipment along the cook line is dirty and greasy; observed grease on rolling racks, hot lamps and hot holding units; there is mildew on racks and inside of units; low grouting and rough floors are causing standing water on cook line and under three-compartment sink; there is a lot of food and other grime buildup on floors, walls and ceilings; observed mold under dish and three-compartment sinks.

Shoredog Café, 435-B North Ridge Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: food protection manager certificate is expired; temperature of sausage under hot lamp is too low; there is 0 ppm of sanitizer in sanibuckets; front low boy has torn gaskets and rusty racks; air temperature of lowboy by cook line is too high; cutting boards on the line are stained.

Live Crawfish & Seafood, 9020 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: employee entered kitchen and put on gloves but didn’t wash hands before handling clean dishes; menu lists catfish but person in charge states that swai is sometimes used; y-connector attached to mop sink doesn’t have the proper backflow prevention device installed.

Devil’s Lettuce, 9050 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: facility couldn’t provide employee health policy or written procedures for cleaning up vomit and diarrhea; temperatures of one bin of beans and corn in lowboy under grill are elevated; person in charge couldn’t provide time control policy; plastic bins are stacked while still wet on clean dish shelf; y-connector attached to mop sink doesn’t have the proper backflow prevention device installed.

Arepa Station, 10170 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: raw bacon and chicken are stored above ready-to-eat foods in reach-in cooler; temperature of eggs and butter are elevated because they are stored out on the counter; some sauces, rice and cooked meats do not have date marks; observed improper cooling methods used for cooked chicken and rice (cooling in deep, covered containers in reach-in cooler).

Playa Bowls, 11341 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: long cutting board on the prep unit is scored and stained; handle on left side of freezer chest is in disrepair; dumpster area is dirty and surrounded by loose trash and debris.

Red Salt, 12221 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a follow-up inspection: black residue found in ice machine; temperature of portioned noodles is elevated because they are stacked too high; temperatures of portioned cooked mushrooms, cream cheese and salmon are elevated; cold water isn’t working at the bar hand sink; grout and tiles under dryer are damaged; there is grease on the floor under fryer.

Oley’s Café, 4435 Waterfront Drive – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: container of shredded chicken in commercial refrigeration unit isn’t date marked; long cutting board on the prep unit is heavily scored and stained; gasket liners are torn on both doors of prep unit; there is a direct plumbing connection underneath the three-compartment sink.
