Registration opens for Henrico Fire Civilians Academy

Enrollment for the Henrico Fire Civilians Fire Academy has opened and will remain open through Sept. 26.
The program is open to citizens who want to experience a unique opportunity to get a glimpse into the role of a Henrico firefighter.
Throughout the program, participants will engage in classroom instruction and hands-on training led by firefighters. Participants will have the chance to:
- explore a fire engine;
- operate a fire hose;
- wear turn-out gear;
- ride on the fire boat;
- use vehicle extrication tools;
- operate thermal imaging cameras;
- participate in hazardous materials demonstrations;
- learn rescue methods;
- understand how the Henrico Division of Fire prepares for local and county-wide emergencies.
The program will begin Oct. 9 and be held weekly for nine weeks, and a graduation ceremony will take place Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m.
