Quioccasin Middle School chorus teacher Jordyn Satterfield grew up in classrooms and choirs in Henrico County Public Schools, and it was as a student at Shady Grove Elementary School, Short Pump Middle School and Deep Run High School that she found her passion for music and education.
Satterfield’s journey with Henrico Schools came full circle Jan. 7, when she was named the 2026 Henrico Teacher of the Year.
“I’m just very grateful. As teachers, we all work so hard, but to receive this recognition is such a win for our school, music education and our students. I’m just very proud and honored,” she said after school division leaders and her Quioccasin peers surprised her with the announcement. “I grew up in Henrico, so this is not just my award; it belongs to the Henrico teachers who shaped me and helped me get to where I am, as well as the colleagues who continue to inspire me every day.”
Of the 4,000-plus teachers across HCPS, Satterfield was selected from five finalists, one representing each of Henrico’s magisterial districts, by a committee of administrators and educators using an interview and review process.
Satterfield’s submissions focused on “Impact Through Belonging,” showcasing how music provided her a true sense of belonging as part of Deep Run’s Class of 2017 and how that has translated to her teaching career, which began at Quioccasin in 2021.
She has stressed culture, community and engaged learning not only to grow the chorus program at Quioccasin — which has more than doubled in size since her arrival — but also the community building and academic success at the school.
Satterfield was among the 20 teachers spotlighted in May in the Henrico Citizen's annual Henrico's Top Teachers section.

Superintendent Amy Cashwell was among those who greeted Satterfield with the news Thursday, along with Henrico School Board Chair Marcie Shea, principal Robert Stevens and his Quioccasin administrative team, and various directors and leaders from HCPS — along with her parents, Steve and Rachael.
“Your passion reaches beyond the sweet harmony in the classroom to make a profound difference in the lives of your students and our community. That is the true measure of Henrico’s Teacher of the Year,” Cashwell said. “We are thrilled to have you represent Henrico County Public Schools’ outstanding teachers.”
Along with her teaching duties, Satterfield serves as the head cheerleading coach at Quioccasin and also has volunteered as a music director for the school’s theater program. She has chaired district-level assessments and competitions for middle school singers and high school ensembles, along with contributions to mentorship, music education and performing arts programs throughout Henrico and beyond.
A graduate of the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, Satterfield is an active member of the Virginia Music Educators Association, Virginia Choral Directors Association, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
The school division will host a May banquet at the Hilton Short Pump to recognize the Teacher of the Year honorees from all HCPS schools, including the 2026 divisionwide Teacher of the Year finalists: Anne Koenig of Greenwood Elementary School (Brookland District); Kristina Nguyen of Henrico High School (Fairfield District); Melissa Bennett of Colonial Trail Elementary School (Three Chopt District); and Mallika Menon of Fair Oaks Elementary School (Varina District).
