A popular New York City hamburger joint is expanding to Henrico County, where its first Virginia location is set to open soon.

Holy Burger, which features handcrafted hamburgers made from 100% halal beef and signature sauces, will open at 8300 Brook Road in a building that formerly housed a Wendy’s.

Holy Burger also offers vegetarian options, included plant-based patties. Halal beef adheres to Islamic dietary requirements because it comes from animals that were slaughtered humanely and includes no pork, alcohol or other forbidden substances (such as animal byproducts) as ingredients.

Holy Burger has 18 locations in New York (mostly in New York City), as well as others in New Jersey, Michigan, Maryland and Texas. In addition to the new Henrico location, another new restaurant is being planned in Beverly, Massachusetts.

The chain’s signature Holy Burger is a mixture of short rib and brisket, topped with American cheese, Holy Sauce, lettuce, tomato and onion. Its Classic Burger is a quarter-point of Chuck with the same toppings. The chain also serves a Holy Chicken sandwich, as well as chicken tenders, hot dogs, NYC cheesesteaks, chopped cheese and a grilled chicken club, among other options.

Company officials did not respond to an inquiry about when the restaurant intends to open, but preparations at the site have progressed visibly in recent weeks.
