Hundreds of people turned up along Brook and Mountain roads in Henrico County Tuesday morning to catch a glimpse of the Walk for Peace pilgrimage – a 2,200-mile journey for a group of Buddhist monks based in Fort Worth, Texas.

The monks spent most of Monday in Richmond, then departed from Virginia Union University on Brook Road in the city Tuesday morning, heading north to cross into the county as part of the 101st day of their journey.

They crossed the intersection of Brook Road and Azalea Avenue at about 8:30 a.m. and arrived near the Brook Run shopping center shortly after 9:15 a.m. They passed the intersection of Brook Road and Hilliard Road by about 9:30, then took about a 40-minute break at St. Joseph's Villa before continuing up Brook, crossing Parham Road just before 10:45 a.m.

From there, the group traveled to Mountain Road and headed to the Campus of Virginia Randolph, where the monks were planning to rest and eat lunch before addressing spectators and visitors afterwards.

The walk will conclude next week in Washington, D.C.
