Richard Irving “Rick” Valentine, III, of Henrico, died peacefully at home on Sunday, August 10, 2025. He was the son of the late Richard I., Jr. and Nell Dover Valentine, and was preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary Whitaker; sister, Frances Gentry; and brother, Alfred “Butch” Whitaker. He is survived by his wife, Angela Cimino Valentine; three sons, Michael, Nicholas (Megan), and Matthew (Blair); sister, Mary Kathryne Murray; brother, James Stuart Whitaker (Bonnie); three granddaughters, Libby, Avery, and Annie; a devoted niece, Susan Gentry Wood, many other nieces and nephews; and dog, Lola Jane. Rick was a United States Air Force veteran and a retired police detective with Henrico County having served 47 years in public service. Rick loved the beach, his family, being a grandfather, Redskins football, Nationals baseball, and his dogs, present and past. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, August 17th at the Staples Mill Chapel of Bliley Funeral Home located at 8510 Staples Mill Road where a celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 18th. Reception to follow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Henrico Police Athletic League (henricopal.org) or Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org). Rick was last seen with Moses the Goat.
