Phillip A. McBride, 37, died unexpectedly in a tragic accident on September 4, 2025. He was born on November 14, 1987, in Richmond, VA, the youngest son of Laura Marie Segraves McBride and Robert Vern McBride, Jr. Following high school graduation, he attended J. Sargeant Reynolds Culinary School to explore his love of cooking. Then, he worked at Pizza Hut on Broad St., Kentucky Fried Chicken on Laburnum Ave., and Little Caesars, where he worked both on Woodman Ave. and in his final years at Laburnum Ave. as a shakerboard sign holder, sauce maker, and pizza wings cook. Phillip was a Boy Scout, a member of Odyssey of the Mind, an Accelerated Reader top scorer during his Ward Elementary years, a prolific video gamer, and he loved true crime movies. He could be summed up as smart, witty, compassionate, and a hard worker, though stubborn! He was affected by epilepsy and Rasmussen's encephalitis. This caused him to have multiple brain surgeries and therapies, to be homeschooled, and to miss out on normal things kids his age were experiencing.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Conchita and William Segraves; his maternal uncle, Anthony Segraves; and his paternal aunt, Tammy McDonough.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his older brother, Robert ("Bobby") McBride; his maternal uncles, Jimi and Jonathan Segraves and Martin Bell; his maternal aunts, PJ Segraves and Paula Crevoshay; his paternal grandmother, Shirley Handy; and paternal aunts Faith Robertson, Cindy Wright, and Debbie Fuller. He also leaves behind numerous cousins in Georgia, Texas, and Virginia, as well as many friends, coworkers, and his beloved dog, Lulu.
For those who wish to remember him, friends of the family have set up a GoFundMe page (gofund.me/c0359d1d9) to share additional memories and to support the family as they navigate the road ahead.
