Patricia Elizabeth Cosby, 99, seventh child of Roscoe Roy Cosby, Sr., and Ida M. LaFratta Cosby, passed away on April 1, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Clifton Bernard Cosby, James Reginald Cosby, Lynwood Anthony Cosby, Msgr. Roscoe Roy Cosby, Algar Hubert Cosby, Andrew Howard Cosby; sisters Ida Madeline Cosby, Evelyn Linda Jackson, Sr. Lucille Ardelle Cosby SCN, and Angeline Genevieve Davis. She is survived by her faithful canine companion, Matt, and many nieces and nephews, including Elizabeth (John), all of whom will miss her deeply.

Born in Henrico, VA, on July 14, 1926, she graduated from the University of Richmond in 1947 where she was the first prize winner in the annual undergraduate contest of Beta Beta Beta Biological fraternity. Elizabeth, with her sister Ida Madeline, founded and operated the Lighting and Supply Company, Inc., in Richmond, VA, from 1958 until their retirements in 1998. Following retirement, Elizabeth turned her attention to further cultivating the flowers and trees on the family property, along with her sister Madeline and brother Roy. Their interest in the gardens started in childhood when their mother taught them about horticulture and planting. The property now has over 10,000 plantings, including over 1,800 different varieties of hybrid azaleas, 50 different native azaleas, and over 300 types of rhododendrons.

Elizabeth’s remains will lie in repose beginning at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, at the Monastery of the Visitation of Holy Mary Monte Maria, 12221 Bienvenue Road, Rockville, VA, 23146. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, at the Monastery of the Visitation of Holy Mary Monte Maria. Interment to follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family especially appreciates and thanks Wes and Pam Morgan for their excellent care and love for Elizabeth over the last fourteen years. They were like family to her. The accompanying staff of nurses and caregivers were equally devoted to Elizabeth and gave her their best care.
