Michael “Mike” Murphy, age 77, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026.
Born in Richmond, Virginia, Mike was a proud member of one of the first graduating classes of J.R. Tucker High School. He went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force before returning home to earn his degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronnie and John, and by his parents, Mildred and George.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Bobbie; his sisters, Lorain and Michelle; his son, Mike Murphy (Martha); his stepsons, Christopher Hudgins (Sarah) and Matthew Hudgins; and his cherished grandchildren, Taylor Murphy (Jack), Lauren Murphy, Banks Hudgins, and Lily Hudgins.
Mike retired after a dedicated 30-year career with Grainger. In retirement, he found great joy and purpose as a school bus driver for Henrico County for 15 years, where he loved interacting with, encouraging, and mentoring young people.
He had a lifelong passion for sports, fishing, and, above all, spending time with his family. Mike was a steady and dependable presence to his family and friends, and his warmth, humor, and love for those around him will be remembered always.
The family will hold a private ceremony, with a celebration of life to be announced at a later date. Details will be shared with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the E. Claiborne Robins President's Scholarship at the University of Richmond or to American Legion Post 186 Midlothian.
