Marybeth Gevlin Sabene, age 68, of Glen Allen, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. She was under hospice care at Golden Sanctuary Assisted Living in Richmond, VA, when she died.

Marybeth was born on June 18, 1957, in New York City to John and Mary Gevlin. She was the youngest of five children.

Marybeth lived in Woodlawn, NY, where she attended St. Barnabas Elementary School through sixth grade. With her family, she moved to Scarsdale, NY, where she attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Elementary School for 7th and 8th grades. Marybeth went on to attend The Ursuline School in New Rochelle, NY, for two years before moving to Fairport, NY, and graduating from Fairport High School with honors.

Marybeth went to the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, from which she graduated in 1979 with honors. After working for Data Resources, Inc. in Lexington, MA, Marybeth went on to the Wharton School, from which she graduated with an MBA in 1983. She then returned to New York City, where she worked for Avon Products, Inc.

Marybeth married Mauricio Sabene in 1987. They began a family in 1991 in New York with the arrival of their son, Andrew. They lived in Mexico City and then in Puerto Rico, where their second child, Kathryn Rose, was born. They went on to live in New Canaan, CT, and finally, in 2016, they moved to Virginia.

A person of deep faith, Marybeth loved the Lord and was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. Her life reflected her kindness, gentleness, and love for family and friends. She was especially committed to members of the disability community and their families.

Marybeth is survived by her husband Mauricio, her children Andrew (wife Andrea) and Katie, her four siblings Anne Marie, Pat (husband Tom Street), Eileen, and John (wife Nora), and 5 nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael on Monday, February 9, at 10:30 a.m. Marybeth will be buried in New York with her parents.
